Killary Adventure

Killary Group

We left early in the morning and set off on a bus to Killary Adventure Centre accompanied by Mr Curran. When we arrived we were split into groups of four and put into our bedrooms. Then we met our instructors for the two days. First We talked about safety when walking in the harsh Connemara terrain and then packed our lunches, got into old clothes and shoes and started the first 7km of 25km Gaisce walk which would take 2 days.

We started walking uphill through fields and over streams and fences. Then we came down from the hill and went straight into the bog land. Towards the end we waded through a large stream so by the end we were covered in muck and soaked wet.

When we got back we had dinner and played games. We lit a fire, roasted marshmallows and chilled out for the night.

Killary

We got up early on the second day and had breakfast and lunches made for us for the last time and off we went again. The remaining 17km was hard but we also all had great fun at every turn. Through bogs, fields, hills, and forests we pushed through with smiles all round. When we got back to the adventure centre we packed our stuff, said our goodbyes and thanked everyone who had helped make the experience one to remember. There was a lot of snoring on the way home – the sign of a great two day adventure.
