School Choir

The Coláiste Éinde choir joined the Irish Chamber Orchestra for a concert on the 17th October in the Seapoint Ballroom in Salthill. The programme, Minimalism & Melody featured music by Philip Glass’ Symphony No. 3 and Schubert and was directed by violinist Katherine Hunka.

They sang a song entitiled ‘The Music in Me’ and in preparation had a workshop with ICO Education officer, Kathleen Turner, who also conducted a piece on the night. Ms. Taylor, their music teacher commented that “the pupils enjoyed the experience immensely and were grateful for the opportunity to perform alongside a professional ensemble of this calibre”.

The choir was formed in 2010 aiming to give pupils the opportunity to sing in a four-part mixed-voice choir, Soprano, Alto, Tenor & Bass. This is the format for most adult choirs and therefore provides an introduction to choral singing for life after Coláiste Éinde. The choir have also made recordings for competitions, including the All-Ireland School Choir Competition for which they were highly commended.
