School Tour to Berlin

To quote Captain Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation “Make it so Number One”. And so it was that The Berlin Trip was a go. On 15th February on a rather wet Saturday morning, 39 TY, 4th and 5th year students accompanied by a dedicated team of teachers gathered at the school gates to begin their four day trip to Berlin. Students all donning their trademark Berlin hoodies to keep them warm during the trip!

During our trip to Berlin, students visited a multitude of sites from the Brandenburg Gate, TV Tower, Checkpoint Charlie, Reichstag as well as the Holocaust Memorial and museum.

Students also learned about life in East Germany during the east-west divide thanks to the fantastic DDR museum and took in some artwork at the fantastic Pergamon museum.
Of course, no trip would be complete without a bit of shopping (and a few gifts for parents) so students headed off to the massive Mall of Berlin - with over 300 stores to choose from!

On the way home then from Dublin airport, spirits were high and we stopped off at Apple Green for a much needed Burger King after a lot of travelling. Dr. Meally was even treated to a Burger King meal by two students (Aidan and Emma). A vanilla milkshake was obviously called for!
It was a fantastic trip and students were outstanding.
We would like to thank Dr. Meally and Coláiste Éinde staff for organising the trip and to all staff who accompanied the trip and kept all of our students safe (Dr. Meally, Ms. Quinn, Ms. O’ Shaughnessy, Ms. Butler and Mr. Silke).

Dr. Meally is already planning next year’s trip and a new destination. Watch this space for details!
