Connacht Cross Country Championships

The Connacht Cross country Championships took place in Calry, Sligo,
on a lovely winters day but a demanding hilly and muddy course.

The junior boys were our best performing team, finishing 3rd and being
lead home by Connacht champion Cillian Jordan. Cillian timed his
effort to superbly taking the lead going into the final climb up to
the finish line. Barry Murphy also ran an outstanding race to finish
8th. The final scorers, equally important to qualification, were first
year students Sean Forrest and Michael Dempsey.

Uyi Agbonayinma missed the football quarter final to do the race but
showed he has excellent endurance as well as speed by finishing 5th in
the minor boys race. Uyi will qualify for the all-Ireland as an
individual along with, tri-athlete, Ronan Diarrane, who finished 11th
in the senior boys race.

The inter boys team were just one athlete short of a very competitive
team with Rian De Bairead showing great promise in his first year of
running to finish 22nd. We can expect great things on the track from
Diego Brule and Oisin Reaney as they used the race to build their
endurance ready for 400 and 800m races in the summer, whilst finishing
in the top 40.
