Poetry Ireland RTE Radio Interview

On Tues 3 Dec Transition Year student Cian Siggens travelled to the RTE Radio 1 studios in Donnybrook as a guest on the Sean O Rourke Show where he delivered a poem by Rita Ann Higgins and was interviewed about his win last year in the Poetry Aloud Competition where he recited two Shakespeare poems as well as a Heaney poem and a poem by Yeats. Cian spoke eloquently live on air about his experience with poetry and its importance and everyone agreed that his delivery of the poem ‘Poetry Doesn’t Pay’ was brilliant. The whole interview which was broadcast live to a listenership of almost a million according to RTE’s figures can be found on RTE playback website for 3 Dec. His friend Taidhg Wagstaff accompanied him on the day and they together with their teacher Mr Hanberry  had a great day out in RTE, meeting radio presenters in the studio and having tea in the canteen. The day was rounded off later with lunch in town and a visit to the National Gallery to view the famous Carravagio and other paintings including Jack B Yeats.
