Career Guidance and Wellbeing Support

Coláiste Éinde offers both Career Guidance and Counselling to students as part of our Guidance programme. The approach used is based on the continuum support model which provides a framework for schools to enable them to identify and respond to students’ needs in a flexible way. This process is also supported through engagement with external professionals, as required.

Overview: Guidance for All. Guidance for Some. Guidance for A Few.

Counselling is a key part of the guidance programme. Students can avail of confidential one to one appointments for wellbeing support which are offered on an individual or group basis as part of a developmental training process and at moments of personal crisis.  It may include personal counselling, educational counselling or a combination of both.   We endeavour to create a school community where each one feels a sense of belonging and is respected and valued.

In personal counselling, the confidentiality rule is followed i.e. school management, parents, guardians are informed only if it is felt that the student is a danger to himself/herself or to others as per legal requirements.

The student is informed of the limits of confidentiality at the beginning of the session.  If it is felt it is in the student’s best interest to inform a teacher/parent/guardian of a particular difficulty this is done with the knowledge and hopefully agreement of the student. The Guidance team work in close collaboration with parents of any student who is linking with them so that there is comprehensive support being given to students and parents

Our aim at Coláiste Éinde is to offer help, guidance and support to all our students throughout their time in school.  This is achieved through the implementation of our policies such as child protection and anti – bullying; our code of behaviour; our support structures in career guidance, learning support, mentoring and, above all, individual contact with our students.

There is a weekly Care Team meeting for every year group in the school to oversee student welfare within the school.  The Care Team is comprised of the Principal, Deputy Principal, Year Head, Assistant Year Head,Guidance Counsellor, Chaplain, Home School Community Liaison (HSCL), School Completion worker, SEN (Special Educational Needs) Department and teaching staff representatives.  This team supports the holistic development of each student by identifying students who are in need of personal and/or academic support, as well as students who have suffered loss or are experiencing personal crisis.

The Guidance Consellors at Coláiste Éinde are;

• Ms Y Ui Dhomhnaill
• Mr D McNeive

In an effort to encourage our students to reach out and ask for help if they have any concerns about their own wellbeing or that of a fellow student we have put in place a variety of methods of communication to make it as easy as possible for our whole school community to talk to us.  We can be contacted during school hours through all of the following:

Students can drop a note to the Guidance Counsellors office

Students can ask a Teacher/Year Head to refer them to Guidance Counsellor

Students may come directly to Guidance Department Offices and request an appointment

Parents may ring the school and request an appointment for their son/daughter
